They were simultaneously doing new build/refurb and pre-fab building. The quality of finish is excellent. We have had some extremely complicated interface with existing school and students to manage. Any issues are dealt with immediately and in a sympathetic way, going way above what would usually be expected. The lines of communication are superb at every level. The staff at Carter just ‘get’ us. This has very much been a build that we have done together, rather than a build that has been done to us. I would not hesitate to recommend Carter for a future build, and specifically in an SEN environment; we will miss them when they are gone.
They have provided Northamptonshire County Council with excellent service and support in the areas of construction methodology, design development, value engineering, programme enhancements and a general ‘can do’ attitude to the whole process. Their quality of work, communication and approach both in site and project management has been a major factor in the project’s success, helping to deliver to the end user a build that will enhance the education of young people in the local area for years to come. I can confidently recommend R G Carter as a solid and reliable contractor.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS
We have many decades of experience constructing schools for Early Foundation stages and Key Stages 1 & 2 helping to inspire learning and creativity in children’s primary years of development both in the classroom and the playground. Working with the schools we create safe, multi-functional spaces which not only enable children to thrive but offer the flexibility schools need to adapt and grow in the future.
SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Our work with schools for Key Stages 3 & 4 has incorporated the complex needs of secondary facilities, accommodating academic and vocational needs as well as the provision of sports education. We have developed many specialist buildings such as STEM specific, enabling students to gain the expert and focussed teaching needed to be prepared for higher and further educational routes.

HIGHER EDUCATION
Due to the ever-widening subjects now delivered through higher education at city colleges and specialist academies, we have worked on a variety of bespoke blocks and refurbishments to develop relevant spaces for both skills-based and vocational training. As well as traditional classrooms and workshops, more flexible, multi-use spaces have been delivered, requiring clever design and cost effective solutions.
FURTHER EDUCATION
Working across a number of university contractor frameworks we develop collaborative solutions for bespoke teaching and learning spaces based on courses and specialisms offered on campus such as science, research and the arts. We also support commercial developments needed across further education, developing flexible office space for local business, helping universities in their economic growth.

SEN SCHOOLS
With the increased demand for educational provision for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), we have delivered numerous bespoke new builds and extensions to existing schools. Accessibility, safety, medical and wellbeing needs of pupils is paramount and we work collaboratively before and throughout the project with staff and stakeholders to ensure we create the very best environment, practically and emotionally to meet these complex needs.

STUDENT ACCOMODATION
We have an established track record of delivering award winning student accommodation for a range of Colleges and Universities across East Anglia, as well as independent UK student accommodation providers. Our projects include new build campus apartments, extensive city centre refurbishments and the creation of bespoke Passivhaus builds, all of which have focussed on comfort, security, practicality, and the provision of communal space to support wellbeing.

MODULAR
Over the past 15 years, R G Carter has delivered over 30 Eco-Classrooms to schools across the Eastern region. These modular based classrooms have provided cost-effective, low maintenance, sustainable solutions which we have expertly tailored to suit the location or needs of each school. With low emissions, running costs and a track record of A-rated Energy Performance Certificates, they have provided schools with the perfect solution as a temporary or longer term solution. Quick to erect and low maintenance, they have created healthy environments for pupils and flexible space for the future.
REFURBISHMENT AND MAINTENANCE
Increasing the longevity of educational facilities and ensuring they are safe and comfortable is a key part of our service. Delivered through our dedicated Building Solutions team, we undertake maintenance and repairs and ad-hoc refurbishment. These works are often delivered in challenging, live environments, where timing, health and safety and people management is a priority; our teams always working sensitively to minimise disruption to staff and pupils.

Building for the future; Sustainable Solutions
R G Carter is committed to positively impacting both the physical and mental wellbeing of young people through designing and constructing the most sustainable buildings possible. Working collaboratively with educational providers we work hard to deliver energy efficiency, use sustainably scoured materials and install low carbon technologies, all helping to support Net Zero targets for both the schools and local councils.
We pride ourselves on using greener methods of construction such as Cross Laminate Timber (CLT) construction on student accommodation projects, through to modular Thermowood timber clad eco-classrooms; both examples quicker to construct with many positive environmental benefits. We also specialise in Passivhaus construction, having built ultra-low energy student accommodation.

Creating Social Value: engaging with students
Whether progressing a new build or extension, or with schools local to one of our sites, we are passionate about engaging with staff and students on the careers in construction and sustainable building.
We enjoy running initiatives, talks and Q&A sessions for pupils of all ages, and getting hands on and creative running a variety of activities on sites at schools for example building bug hotels, planting trees donating unused materials from site for imaginative play, hoarding competitions and hard hat craft.
