Northampton School for Boys
New Swimming Pool, Fitness and Dance Studio

This development comprises the demolition of the existing swimming pool and store buildings and the design and construction of a new six-lane 25 meter competition swimming pool, fitness suite with a minimum clear height of 3.5m, dance studio with a minimum clear height of 3.5m and other enabling / alteration works to the schools grounds, together with any other associated external works, drainage, utility connections, hard and soft landscaping.

The key elements of work are as follows:

  • 25m, 6 lane, 2m deep competition standard swimming pool, together with the associated 9m long movable floor, water treatment, pool air handling, wet changing facilities, poolside equipment, water polo provisions, competition timing systems, display boards, spectator seating and trackless mobile performance analysis system.
  • Dance studio with a clear height of at least 3.5m, together with the associated dry changing facilities, specialist hardwood activity dance flooring, sound system and public address, vertical and horizontal wall bars, padded wall matting, black out curtains, full height mirrors, 50” tv and teaching station and floor matting and inflatable runway.
  • Fitness Suite extending out from the existing fitness suite within the School’s sports hall with a clear height of 3.5 to 4m, together with an area of impact resistant rubber flooring, wall mirrors and 50’’ TV and teaching station.
  • General circulation, changing and ancillary areas.

Grounds considerations, including but not limited to the new build groundman’s store, tractor store and office, provision of an external water feed for washdown, conversion of the old tractor store into a storage space for exam desks and the like, alterations to the levels and approach of the Southern access road to allow delivery vehicles and an ambulance to travel safely between the tennis courts and timber storage building and the provision of a tarmac road surface to the read of the new swimming pool for water treatment deliveries.
