Beaulieu Park Primary School

R G Carter has completed the construction of Beaulieu Park Primary School, one of the first net zero in operation school buildings in Essex. This school creates an additional 420 primary pupil places and a 30 place Early Years facility to meet the growing demands in the area.

This was a 2-stage tender which compromises of ground floor classrooms for reception and key stage 1 pupils and a nurture class space alongside with a new sports hall, kitchen and dining space and externally include a range of recreational and soft and hard play areas, playing fields and a habitat area.. The upper floor is for the key stage 2 pupils.

R G Carter worked closely with the client, architect and the developers of Beaulieu, Countryside and L&Q, to deliver and develop a sustainable design solution for the school with a low energy consumption target of 65 kwh/m2 per annum. To achieve this a variety of sustainable technologies were used, including PV panels and air source heat pumps to reduce the building’s energy used and maximise renewable sources coupled with a highly insulated building fabric with low air tightness formed by a timber frame structure constructed offsite to reduce deliveries impact to the local community. The design was informed by principles for the LETI guide.
