30 Station Road

R G Carter were appointed as preferred bidder for the 30 Station Road (also known as Daedalus House) project in the centre of Cambridge in 2019 via a two stage procurement process.

The project is positioned directly opposite Microsoft Research and next door to the prominent 50/60 Station Road. 30 Station Road offers 79,000 sq ft of new commercial office space over seven floors (plus a car park basement) to Category A standards. Its innovative design is described as a ‘cube within a cube’ – a construction that provides a stylish contrast to the surrounding mix of architecture. New technologies and metering systems help reduce water use by 40% compared with similar buildings and ensure that it exceeds the Government ‘baseline’ targets for fuel and power use by more than 25%

On the roof, nesting boxes provide safe habitats to encourage local wildlife. Whilst at ground level there are 302 bicycle spaces in secure, two-tier racks and Shefield stands. There are also 10 electric car charging points in the basement.

Workers at 30 Station Road will benefit from modern, high-spec internal features including light and airy offices and collaborative spaces designed to help employees connect, including the following:

The delivery of 30 Station Road was logistically challenging given the closely proximity of neighbouring buildings, cycle footpaths (which were rediverted) and the closeness of the footpaths and roads leading the nearby busy train station. To facilitate this, strict procedures were put in place with crane oversail licences (utilising the a crane ‘slew brakes’ as well as footpath closures/diversions, where required, and a ‘just in time’ deliveries principle adopted.
