The new primary school in Wymondham has moved a step closer, with the completion of the building’s steel frame.

The new Silfield Oak Primary School will eventually support 420 children in the growing town and is due to open in September this year.

An official steel signing ceremony took place at the school, attended by staff from Norfolk County Council, new headteacher Emily McMillen, R G Carter, and consultants NPS and Roy Sykes Consulting.

Councillor Penny Carpenter, cabinet member for Children’s Services at Norfolk County Council said: “Wymondham is a growing town and we want to support children to go to schools in their local communities. I look forward to seeing the school welcome its first pupils later this year.”

The school will open to reception children initially and will grow over time to become an all-through primary school.

The school’s new headteacher, Emily McMillen, will move to her new role from Heartwood CE VC Primary and Nursery School in Swaffham. She said: “It has been very exciting seeing our brand-new school building take shape. We can’t wait to welcome the first cohort of pupils and families to Silfield Oak in September.”

Alex Mackay, Construction Director at R G Carter said: “The steel signing event is a great opportunity to celebrate progress of this much-needed primary school and for everyone involved to make their own mark on the project. It’s been great to see the vision of Norfolk County Council and Unity Schools Partnership come to life, and we look forward to handing over this new school to the local community.”

Silfield Oak Primary Academy will be managed by Unity Schools Partnership, the trust’s 40th school and their 26th primary school across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, and Havering.

Tim Coulson, chief executive of Unity Schools Partnership said: “We are delighted to welcome Silfield Oak into our family of schools as part of our growing Norfolk hub and wider trust. We look forward to working with staff, families and the local community and supporting them every step of the way.”
