The Old Gaol renovation and one-storey hall extension at Ely Museum, is now in its final stages. The project has been a mix of modernisation to create practical display spaces for the museum, and careful restoration of its historic features.
This new stairwell with its timber beamed roof, creates access to the upper floor displays and new educational hall, and shows the marriage of old and new. The old stone wall from the Old Goal creates a unique feature and the walls display original doors from Gaol cells; just some of the wonderful artefacts that the museum look forward to visitors viewing on opening its doors once again next year.
