The new Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre (DARTeC) is progressing well on site at Cranfield University. Having commenced enabling works on site in August, the main building’s steel frame is now complete with the ground floor slab in progress.
Approximately 265 tonnes of steel will be used between the frames of the main building and adjacent canopy (or ‘hangar laboratory’), which will house a Boeing 737 aircraft on completion.
The frames encompass a number of bespoke steel trusses to achieve the aviation themed design, which includes mirroring roofs with ‘stealth fighter’ profiles when viewed from above. Works are due to be completed this summer: our third major project for Cranfield University.
