At Easton College, Norfolk, the new teaching centre for the Study of Contemporary Agriculture, embraced technological and construction techniques, making it one of the most environmentally advanced buildings in the region on completion in 2010.
Achieving a BREEAM Excellence rating, the 2,992sqm expansive structure was designed by LSI Architects with a unique curved glazed front sloping from two storeys.
Benefiting from a host of sustainable features, the design incorporated stack-effect natural ventilation, ground source heating and sedum roofing with solar shading. A combination of retained heat from the glulam beam and concrete structure, and windows timed to shut overnight ensured classrooms were warm when lessons started next morning.
