We are delighted to announce that Goldsmith Street has won the coveted 2019 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize, awarded annually to the building judged to have made the greatest contribution to British architecture.
Goldsmith Street is an exemplar Passivhaus residential development, the largest in the UK, which re-imagines the Victorian terraced street for the twenty-first century. Described by the judges as “a modest masterpiece” representing “high-quality architecture in its purest most environmentally and socially conscious form”, the housing sets new sustainability and aesthetic standards for the future of social housing in the United Kingdom.
This social housing vision by Norwich City Council, was designed by Mikhail Riches with Cathy Hawley, and hailed at the awards night as a ‘beacon of hope’, one which they encourage other authorities to follow.
As contractor and builders of the scheme, we are extremely proud to have played our part in delivering these unique and energy efficient homes, and for achieving the rigorous Passivhaus environmental standards set to make these homes both comfortable and low cost to run.
Congratulations to everyone involved in achieving this amazing accolade, which is testament to all the commitment and hard work that went in to ensure this truly is a remarkable, ground breaking project.
