University Arms Hotel, Cambridge
The University Arms Hotel in the heart of Cambridge opened the doors to its first customers at the beginning of August 2018.
The project, which is a testament to high quality workmanship, includes 192 bedrooms, a library, bar, function rooms and restaurant. Primarily, an extension which was to match the existing 1920s and 1900s hotel elements, the hotel rooms have fantastic views across Parker’s Piece in Cambridge’s heart.
Following a fire in 2014, which forced the hotel to close, the team at R G Carter worked with specialist subcontractors to bring the hotel back to its former glory.
Few projects have combined so many traditional skills including; use of natural stone and traditional lime mortar, copper roof along the front façade, boxed sash windows and natural Welsh slating for parts of the roofing.
The University Arms holds a special place in the history of Cambridge. Cambridge’s oldest hotel, the University Arms has grown and evolved in line with Cambridge’s expansion as a City.
