Tangham Lodge, Rendlesham Forest

R G Carter recently completed a project with Forestry England, which was procured through the Scape framework.

A new timber framed single storey building with timber cladding provided a new operational and welfare hub for park rangers at Tangham Lodge in Rendlesham Forest, Ipswich. This replaced an older, outdated and inefficient building providing larger and a much more comfortable environment for them all, ready for the warmer summer months.

In the peaceful setting of Rendlesham Forest, the Building Solutions team crafted a sustainably sourced timber framed building. The timber clad aesthetics will enable the build to blend into the tranquil natural surroundings, providing the perfect working haven for the Rangers.

Due to the project’s timber-led design and construction, it has given our own, and provided the ideal first project for the team’s new carpentry apprentice.
Due to the build site being within in Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there was sensitivity of the ecological surrounds. To overcome this, during all of the groundworks we had an ecologist overseeing all the work to ensure we didn’t harm any of the surroundings, this was captured on our risk assessments prior to starting on site.

The project was delivered on time and on budget, meeting all of our clients needs to create an environmentally operational hub. To meet the sustainability criteria, the hub included; sustainably sourced natural timber frame, which was manufactured off site, highly efficient insulation, solar panels, battery storage, air source heat pump and underfloor heating.
